“Catholics are Stupid”

In my perspectives on America class (it goes beyond “America is evil” don’t worry). I was reminded of one of the saddest ironies the left has provided us with. Fortunately, this did not come from the professor or anything course related, as the above quote comes from a student. However, while this comes from a single student, this notion is far from isolated with the campus left.

This notion is of course that Christianity is stupid, intolerant and bigoted towards a menagerie of minorities and “historically marginalized” groups.  The most popular group as of late is homosexuals. Many religions have opposition to same sex marriage, and they have their good reasons and it is their right in America

Which brings us to the context of the quote. We were engaged in a group discussion on same-sex marriage.  When asked to cite the case against same-sex marriage, most students fell back on what they deemed as Christian zealots who were intolerant of homosexuality, despite the fact the reading hardly mentioned religion as a reason against same-sex marriage.

It was within my group discussion where Catholic opposition to gay marriage was being discussed; when in response a student said, “Catholics are Stupid.” What if I were to say, “Gays are stupid?” There would be an outcry of bigotry and intolerance amongst the masses in the class.

In fact, even the Catholic Church would be against such a statement because the Catholic Church has a tolerance of homosexuals as long as they do not act on their urges, and that’s pretty equal since they don’t want heterosexuals to act on their urges either, unless they are within the context of marriage.

However, religious intolerance is all right as long as it is for the sake of establishing sexual tolerance. This has been the case across the country, especially on college campuses. It was given the national spotlight a few weeks at a local Los Angeles college.

A student in a public speaking course at LA City College was called a “fascist bastard” for giving an informative speech on how God has been positive in his life. This was also seven weeks after he told the students that any of them were “fascist bastards” if they voted yes on prop 8.

Intolerance as a means to tolerance as an end. Doesn’t make much sense to me.

On a side note, another gem of a quote was along the lines that Republicans just hide behind statistics. I’m not saying Republicans are right, but I would like someone to be able to
