| More than a sideshow: liberal activists pose serious threat |
|
By Benjamin Parish UCSB Liberal professors have once again shown, regardless of public support for the Arizonan immigration bill, that they know better than the American people. But are these just radicals blowing hot air or is a real threat? On May 27, nearly 200 student protestors gathered in downtown Santa Barbara to protest the bill, which, as Nayra Pacheco a second year history of public policy major told the Daily Nexus, they were protesting the bill, “because of the racial profiling policies we feel it evoked.” The reasons for this being a falsehood have already been stated here and elsewhere. Even the most high profile of critics such as Attorney General Eric Holder have conceded that they haven’t even read the bill, and clearly these protestors are showing the same ignorance by repeating these disproven claims. Regardless, a small band of radicals merged a sit in and a march and blocked an intersection for nearly an hour and a half. In addition to the students, one professor, who still has been failed to be identified, joined in the “civil disobedience.” He with seven other students was arrested. See a theme amongst the campus left and regard for the rule of law? However, this silly ignorance doesn’t just result in a goofy protest that fails to garner any serious attention from rationally minded people. It results in the advocacy for policies that have wrecked communities and threaten the American way of life. In short, this isn’t just a liberal freak show, these people influence ideas on campus. Case in point, the demonstrators didn’t settle for worn out platitudes like “no human is illegal,” they made policy demands, which are not far-fetched for a Californian city with liberal sensibilities like Santa Barbara. According to the UCSB Daily Nexus “Among other demands (no doubt leftist), ralliers (sic) called for the Santa Barbara City Council to cut all business ties with Arizona-based companies and declare the city a sanctuary for immigrants.” Law abiding citizens, taxpayers and especially those hardest hit by illegal immigration should be concerned influential educators are advocating policies which have resulted in disaster in their cities. Illegal alien Walter Alexander Sorto was repeatedly picked up for driver's license violations and for driving without insurance (you mean he didn’t have his papers?!). Houston police, however, were barred from reporting his illegal residency status to federal authorities by "sanctuary policies." In March 2004, Sorto and a companion abducted, raped and killed three Houston women. Nor, can you forget the triple murder in 2008 by Edwin Ramos, a native of El Salvador, of San Francisco resident Tony Bologna and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16. Ramos, a member of MS-13 open fired after his car was inadvertently blocked by Bologna. Both examples are extreme but effectively demonstrate what can happen when the rule of law is overlooked and unenforced. The unruly and murderous consequences of illegal immigration extend into our pocketbooks. Illegal aliens constitute over 25% of the federal prison population. In some areas of the country, illegal aliens commit 12 % of felonies, 25% of burglaries and 34% of thefts. According to the California legislative analysts office, it costs nearly $47,102 per year to incarcerate someone, (more than double that of Florida). Not only is this burden a drag on the California taxpayers, but I provides $8,768 per year for medical care, $998 for pharmaceuticals, 1,928 psychiatric treatment, $944 for education and $660 for record keeping…a high price for our deadliest criminals. Illegal aliens reap all the “benefits” US prison life has to offer such as medical care and education, without paying taxes into the system These activists are entitled to their demonstration, regardless of how misguided the premise is. However, it’s concerning for students and citizens, paid state workers advocate state action increasing murder rates in our largest cites and using our tax dollars, sending California and the US deeper into debt. Rationally, it’s possible to connect the dots why Liberal professors advance their ideology with such veracity on campus. Once they press forward with comprehensive immigration reform, aka amnesty, they’ve collected another minority voting block. After they implement no growth, flat-earth, socialist policies, all their new constituents will all be dependent on ever increasing state power for survival. Hence, we’re witnessing the first part of the Liberal/Marxist end game. We must push back the hordes and reject their giant power grab in attempt to remake society.
