Banks

Her faculty profile reads:

“Ingrid Banks is Associate Professor of Black Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Comparative Ethnic Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Banks' main research and teaching areas are within African American Studies and include race, gender, and culture. Her research and teaching areas also examine beauty culture, black popular culture, black feminist theory, politics of the body, critical race theory, and ethnographic methods.”

Berkeley… Feminist… Critical race theory…? This sounds like the kind of class that is dedicated to the idea that America is racist because a study showed black girls preferring white dolls over black dolls. Her book Hair Matters: Beauty, Power, and Black Women's Consciousness is a hint at this notion. Surely if we all only had better self esteem we could overcome the shackles that bind us, because poor self-image is only for the oppressed.
